Michael Clark
April 22, 2024
It’s almost time for one of the biggest cybersecurity events of the year: RSA Conference 2024. 40,000 security professionals from around the world are expected to convene at Moscone Center in San Francisco, Calif. May 6 through May 9 to get a glimpse of the future of cyber.
The conference agenda is packed with a staggering number of events, so ExtraHop created an Event Intelligence Feed to help you make the most of your time there. Read on for can’t-miss events, including partner seminars, speaking sessions, learning labs, and keynotes, as well as ways to take a break from all the buzz near the convention center.
You can find ExtraHop at booth N-6245. Don’t forget to check out cyberriskrevealed.com for more information on what ExtraHop will be up to during the conference.
Partner Events
Is your organization trying to improve the way it manages and quantifies cyber risk? Join the FAIR Institute for Mastering Cybersecurity Risk with FAIR: An Introduction and Case Study. This two-part seminar will introduce participants to the Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR™) model of cyber risk management and explore more cutting-edge applications.
Crowdstrike will host Hacking Exposed: Next-Generation Tactics, Techniques and Procedures, a session designed to show attendees the latest tactics, techniques, and procedures adversaries are evolving to bypass legacy defensive systems and maximize their impact.
Celebrate Next-Gen SIEM, Managed Detection and Response, and more with CrowdStrike, Dell, ExtraHop, Intel, and ZScaler at the CrowdStrike Next Wave partner mixer.
Netskope customers and prospects who want to dive deeper into Zero Trust in public and private cloud environments, secure use of generative AI, cool methods for deploying agents, and more should attend the Netskope Tech Day Workshop. This event takes place at the St. Regis, less than a five minute walk from Moscone Center.
Speaking Sessions
Handling the aftermath of a breach can be among the most difficult days in a security executive’s career. The panelists from Life After the Breach: A Survivor’s Guide will share advice on how to make it through based on their own experiences.
The SEC’s indictment of SolarWinds and its CISO sent shockwaves through the cyber world. In CISOs Under Indictment: Case Studies, Lessons Learned, and What’s Next, panelists Charles Blauner, David Cross, and Joe Sullivan will discuss their experiences and the impact of recent indictments on the evolving role of the CISO.
David Bianco says, “I Screwed Up Threat Hunting a Decade Ago and Now We’re Fixing It with PEAK.” This session will explain the mistakes made during the creation of the Sqrrl Threat Hunting Cycle in 2015 and how the new PEAK framework corrects these mistakes based on nearly a decade of experience.
Cybersecurity is national security. Join ExtraHop’s Sarah Cleveland, former nation-state hacker and Cybereason CEO Lior Div , and Dr. Bilyana Lilly (Chair of the Democratic Resilience Track at the Warsaw Security Forum) for Geopolitics and Cybersecurity in 2024 and Beyond, where attendees will get a crash course in three major world conflicts and their implications for cybersecurity.
Keynotes
It’s been ten years since the first bitcoin-enabled ransomware attacks targeting companies were discovered. Today, it’s the largest and most lucrative form of cybercrime, drawing organized criminal outfits and advanced persistent threats alike. In The First Decade of Corporate Ransomware, speaker Mikko Hypponen, CRO of WithSecure, recaps the last decade and offers predictions for the decade to come.
In The Five Most Dangerous New Attack Techniques You Need to Know About, the SANS Institute breaks down dangerous new attack techniques currently in use, predictions for what’s next, and how organizations can prepare.
For a masterclass on the CISO role, be sure to attend CISOs Unchained. This session brings four distinguished former CISOs to one stage: Marene Allison, Charles Blauner, Renee Guttmann-Stark, and Tim McKnight.
Learning Lab
What’s materiality and how do I explain cyber materiality to the board? Get the answers to these questions and more in Materiality Matters – Lessons From the First CISO to Disclose in SEC Filings. Malcolm Harkins, Chief Security & Trust Officer at Hidden Layer, facilitates this learning lab, where attendees will learn about materiality using real case studies, including the first public company to disclose a cyber incident in its SEC filings.
How to Unwind After a Busy Day at RSAC
Only have a few minutes to spare for a nature fix? Step outside the convention center and take a stroll through the Yerba Buena Gardens. Fountains, a butterfly garden, public art installations, and more will ease your mind.
For a longer mid-day break, consider some nearby cafes. Café du Soleil at 345 3rd St. offers a French-inspired experience from 9 AM to 3 PM on weekdays, with coffee, sandwiches, salads, and more. Also check out Cafe Dolci at 740 Market St. from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM on weekdays for pastries, Vietnamese coffee and tea, and banh mi. There is no seating at Cafe Dolci, so be prepared to take your food or drinks to go.
If you have a few hours of downtime, there are a number of museums near the convention center worth exploring. For fans of modern and contemporary art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is not to be missed. The Museum of the African Diaspora is walking distance from the convention center and “celebrates Black cultures, ignites challenging conversations, and inspires learning through the global lens of the African Diaspora.” The Contemporary Jewish Museum is also conveniently located near Moscone Center and “makes the diversity of the Jewish experience relevant for a twenty-first century audience.” For a truly unique experience, check out the American Bookbinders Museum and learn more about the history, tools, and process of bookbinding. You can also take a self-guided public art walking tour through the Yerba Buena neighborhood via a free app.
For the more scientifically-minded, the California Academy of Sciences offers a planetarium, aquarium, natural history museum, and more within the confines of Golden Gate Park. If you’re willing to venture further into the Bay Area, the Intel Museum, located at Intel’s headquarters in Santa Clara, offers a look into the history of Intel and the semiconductor industry. The Tech Interactive in San Jose encourages visitors to explore hands-on activities, labs, and exhibits on climate change, robotics, healthcare, cybersecurity, and more.
